Tree cohorts:

In the context of Forest Stand Dynamics, a cohort is a group of individuals the have a similar life experience because of the formation of the group.

The reason this term is used in stand dynamics is an attempt to reduce the age classification of forest stand and describe them in terms of stand disturbance history. Trees experience a set of disturbances that establish the stand and change the sturcture of the stand. Trees that experience these disturbances together are defined as a cohort.
